Easy Ways to Lose Weight: Write It All Down

Anyone who has ever wanted to lose weight, or needed to, for that matter, are always on the lookout for easy ways to lose weight. It is human nature to take the easy way regardless what we are doing. The only problem is that sometimes the easy way is not always the best way. When it come to weight loss, not many people will tell you that it is easy. We all know how difficult it can be. But once we make up our mind and accept the fact that some sacrifices have to be made, then the process does begin to seem somewhat more easy. It’s all a matter of acceptance.

People on any weight loss program become avid readers about various plans, diets and success stories. Deep down maybe we are looking for some easy ways to lose weight. I am about to share an article I found while cruising the Internet. It is written by USA Today. I was almost physically ill when I read it. It made me realize what an idiot I have been for almost 50 years of trying to lose weight. I have spent a small fortune on gyms, weight watcher meetings ,multiple types of weight loss diet plan, keeping various sizes of clothing available at all times, and all this time, all I had to do was write down what I was eating!

Now, I know it seems a bit absurd, but I would even question if there are actually any easy ways to lose weight. maybe there is. According to this USA Today article, dieters who write down everything they eat each day lose twice as much weight as those who don’t and this is based on one of the largest weight-loss studies ever conducted. This confirms the importance of keeping a food diary — advice that nutritionists and weight loss programs have pushed for years. I do seem to remember being told to do this, but it flew right over my head.

There are constantly studies being carried out with weight loss. Of course, researchers would be more than pleased if easy ways to lose weight were discovered. Scientists at four clinical research centers recruited 1,685 overweight or obese adults who weighed an average 212 pounds. Forty-four percent were African Americans. The participants were offered 20 weekly group sessions led by nutritionists and behavior counselors and encouraged to try to lose at least 9 pounds in six months. They were told to consume about 500 fewer calories a day, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, do about 180 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week, and keep daily food and exercise records. This was the only weight loss regime they had to perform.

The results of some studies are not what was expected. The findings of this particular study may amaze you. After 6 months, they found out that the ones who wrote down what they ate every day lost twice as much weight as the ones who didn’t. I am beside myself with anger. You mean to tell me I could be a size 8 instead of a size 16 if I had only written down what I was eating all these years. I figure the physical activity alone of writing all that down ought to amount to a few pounds of weight loss. Well, there you have it. The secret to weight loss has been found. Get those pencils out girls and start writing it all down and double your weight loss. Maybe there is hope after all that some easy ways to lose weight may be developed.

How to Lose Weight Quickly

How to Lose Weight Quickly

Weight loss is now a major problem in our society. From young children to teens to your adults, more and more people are becoming over weight. Why is this happening and what can be done about it? And are some sectors of society promoting it? So many people are searching for ways on how to lose weight quickly. With obesity becoming a world wide epidemic millions of people are searching for a foolproof way of how to lose weight and maintain that weight loss.

Is it any wonder that weight loss has become big business? There are millions of dollars spent on weight loss programs each year. And people want to know how to lose weight quickly. It can be very difficult for the average person to know which one of the numerous diets available should they choose to help them to lose weight? For some people the need to lose weight is a serious life saving business whereas for others it may just be to lose weight to look a little better in that wedding outfit or to get into a new dress for a special occasion. But whatever the reason the desire to lose weight can become an obsession and people will go to unbelievable ends to make this happen.

There are so many different programs available today for those looking to lose weight. Many of these programs promote programs on how to lose weight quickly. Most people are content to lose weight by following a simple calorie controlled diet or by attending a club like Weight Watchers, but others have to resort to more drastic measures, like having their stomach’s stapled or undergoing an operation such as liposuction to remove several pounds of fat from their bodies. These people often have a more deep rooted problem needing a more radical approach to help them to lose weight.

I’m sure you’ve noticed how advertising for years has promoted the thin look. Especially for young girls. They grow up thinking that they have to be thin. Today image is becoming more and more important, particularly amongst the younger generation who want to look like the super models and to be able to wear the latest fashions. Their desire to find out how to lose weight quickly can often become an obsession and this can have some devastating effects if not dealt with appropriately. Many young people who start off wanting to be “super model slim” can very easily become anorexic if it is in their nature to become overly obsessive about their eating habits.

A major part of the the weight problem today is the lack of education provided on the topic. As always there is an expectation that schools should play their part and ensure that young people are educated about the need for healthy eating. Although this is a good way of targeting these young people, if the program is to be successful it will be necessary to somehow educate the parents of these children as healthy eating must begin in the home!! Too many parents are inclined to indulge their children by giving in to their fads and fancies and are too eager to give them sugary treats and buy ready made meals from the fast food establishments. There is nothing to beat some good home cooking with natural ingredients. Parents need to be aware that eating a healthy home prepared meal is an important part of everyday family life. Parents should not let things get to the point where their children begin to look for information on how to lose weight quickly.

Quick Ways to Lose Weight: Teenagers

Being a young person today is no easy task. With all the stresses of being a teenager, they now have to also deal with the stress of being overweight. They are many reasons why more and more of our young people are becoming overweight. It’s obvious that many are not eating the right foods with so many fast foods now a part of their daily diet. To deal with this problem, many teens are looking for quick ways to lose weight. Sadly, this approach can lead to even more problems.

If you can’t break your habits that have caused your weight problems then you will always have those weight problems. And with teens, the pressure to have the perfect body image is very real. So they begin to look for those plans, pills or whatever other quick ways to lose weight they can find.

Teens have to be educated on weight loss. So many problems can arise if they are left to their own judgement. There are currently Hundreds of diet programs on the market,so dieting is not really that hard, especially if you are focused on your target weight and determined to lose those extra pounds. It is important, though, that you look for a diet that will fit your needs and will still keep you healthy. Given so many choices, teen will usually opt for the quick ways to lose weight rather than the healthy ways.

Weight loss can be free if you decide to do the research and use your common sense. But today, we usually pay for the information to help us lose weight. And some of the weight loss programs are very costly. Although most of the diet programs on the market work up to a point, getting started on some of the programs can be quite expensive. Teenager may not be able to afford some of the diet programs out there and they will therefore need to choose a weight loss regime that doesn’t involved the extra costs. Sometimes they may be taking advice from a friend who lost some weight, but this advice may involve quick ways to lose weight that may be unsafe.

Why do so many people think that there is some magical weight loss plan out there? Maybe it’s because losing weight takes some effort and we want things without too much effort. There is actually no great secret to successful weight loss. All it takes if the effort and determination. If you have a teenager you certainly know that they can be determined. Help your teen realize that there are no healthy quick ways to lose weight. It will take time. Once they realize this and you help them find or develop a weight loss plan, they will have one less concern to be stressed over.

Weight Loss Stories - Fact or Fiction

People who have been successful at losing weight, and keeping it off, will have a story to tell. And most will be more than pleased to tell you how they did it. However, sometimes people will stretch the truth somewhat, but you have to determine what is fact or fiction. We all feel great when we achieve significant weight loss and we are all happy to tell others about the struggles we had to endure to reach our goals.

We usually don’t realize how important our stories can be for others. We are just pleased that someone will listen to how we did it. However, our successful weight loss stories have an importance of their own in that they can inspire other people to lose weight. So in fact an honest weight loss story can save someone’s life and that’s not an exaggeration; it is a statement of fact. Many of these people have made huge sacrifices and life changes to achieve their goal and seeing their success in real terms is very helpful to others who are in a similar situation.

When regular people are successful at the weight loss game, others notice. And believe it or not, they are curious as to how we reached our goals. Weight loss success stories can easily inspire, but it is vital to keep in mind that you won’t achieve your target weight tomorrow, next week or next month. But every day that you stick to your plan and make changes to your eating habits, you are one day closer to your target and one day closer to a healthier you.

We all know someone who has lost a large amount of weight. We also know that some of these people have put the weight back on, not being able to maintain the weight loss they achieved. There are many weight loss success stories available if you join a program like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. These companies love to tell the world about their successful clients, no doubt to make themselves look great but also to inspire everyday people to reach their goals. Absolutely anyone can achieve their weight loss goals, regardless of how much you weigh now. People have regained control of their life from all sorts of difficult circumstances, including weighing several hundred pounds! So there is no reason why you can’t follow on their footsteps. You have to believe in yourself and really want to lose weight. Remember the mind plays a very important role in any weight loss program.

So when you are successful at losing some weight and maintaining that weight loss, be prepared to tell others about your journey. They are more than curious how you did it, so why not keep a journal as you travel that weight loss road. The most important thing to take on board is that you’ll have to take action if you are to achieve your target weight. It is easy to be inspired by others weight loss success stories, but it isn’t always as easy to follow their example. Determination and self control will help you to achieve your dream of being slim. In the end its up to you.

Lose Weight with the GI Diet

Weight loss today has become a science. To be successful it seems that you have to know what the latest research studies have uncovered and be able to apply this information to your daily routine. Gone are the days of using our common sense to lose weight. Common sense referring to eating the right foods, eating the proper amount of the foods we need and following a moderate exercise plan. Regardless, if you need to lose weight then you must do what works for you. If it means keeping abreast of the latest research, or just doing all the common sense things, if it works for you then that is what you need to do.

There are so many theories as to the best way to lose weight. One of the most popular ways to lose weight is to choose foods according to their Glycemic Load (GL). All food has a glycemic index (GI) which is a qualitative measure that tells you whether the carbohydrate it contains is fast or slow releasing. The Glycemic Load tells you more about the effect that food will have on your weight, ie whether or not it will cause you to put on weight.
If we are to believe that the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to by stabilizing your blood sugar and insulin response to food, then we need to pay attention to the ways to achieve this. Keeping the blood sugar balanced depends not only on what we eat but also when we eat it. We need to reduce the amount of carbohydrate in our diets. We also need choose foods/carbohydrates with a low glycemic-load (GL), combine carbohydrates with protein and cut back on stimulants and stress.

When following any weight loss plan, you must be confident that it is the right plan for you as well as a healthy plan. To lose weight on this diet it is important to make sure that you eat no more than 40 GL a day and at main meals you should eat low GL carbohydrates with protein rich foods. How a food is processed, prepared or cooked is a key element in the GL of a food and therefore the effect it will have on your blood sugar. If you eat spaghetti if example your blood sugar levels and your insulin levels will rise quite gently until the body produces insulin and then they drop. However if you eat white bread they will rise twice as high and then drops down much lower. It is the peaks that damage your arteries making them less responsive to insulin and the troughs that leave you tired and sleepy and craving carbohydrates and or stimulants. It is strange that two foods made of roughly the same flour can have such different effects on the body. This is probably due to the fact that bread is cooked for longer than spaghetti. Needless to say eating white bread will do nothing to help you to lose weight.

It may sound a bit complicated but as you become more familiar with this information the clearer it becomes and easier to apply as you attempt to lose weight. The Glycemic Index levels to which different foods raise your blood sugar compared with the effect of pure glucose. The more complex the carbohydrate, the lower the GI, as it will take longer for the sugar to be broken down and released into the blood stream . For example apples and oats are slow releasing and raisins and puffed rice cereal are fast releasing. So the foods you choose to help you to lose weight should be from the Low Glycemic Index foods

As with most things in life, there are some exceptions and so there is with using the Glycmic Index. There is one small problem with using just the GI score as you will find that certain foods such as carrots and chocolate have similar scores and clearly it would be foolish to choose the chocolate over the carrots if you want to avoid the blood sugar highs and lows and ultimately lose weight. The Glycemic Load (GL) is a far better way of predicting the right foods to eat as it is an indicator of what a given serving of food will do to your blood sugar. Remember that balancing your blood sugar and insulin is the only sure way to lose weight and keep it off.

Weight Loss

Dieting and losing weight is not easy for the majority of people. The fact is if you are over weight, chances are it took months or in most cases, years to get to your current weight level. So what are some options and what are the best practices out there that are safe and effective? There are thousands of diets to choose from these days. All one has to do is go online to Google and search for lose weight programs. Weight loss is a challenge to even the most motivated of us. Changing our diets after years of bad eating habits is not easy to achieve. The problem is many of us don’t take the matter seriously enough and want to achieve miracles.

Because we live in a society that wants everything instantly, we have also adopted that attitude it seems for lose weight programs. You know the ones I am referring to, lose 10 pounds in the next 7 days without changing anything you are currently doing. The fact is you need to follow sensible weight loss programs that are safe, yet effective. How many times have you tried to lose weight and wanted to see results immediately? We want the extra pounds to come off overnight. Safe and effective weight loss takes time. It took years to put on the extra weight but when we want to get rid of it we think it can be done quickly. It would be nice but it just doesn’t work that way. To have safe and sustained weight loss you must be patient. Patience is a very important part of any weight loss plan. Without it, many people become discouraged and will give up because the weight loss is not happening fast enough for them. It’s almost a characteristic today’s society, we want everything right now!

A vital part of any weight loss plan is changing our eating habits. Weight loss occurs when calorific output exceeds calorific input. The best way to reduce caloric intake is to make a change in the foods we eat, but it must be done in a way that ensures you are eating the correct type of foods to lose weight. Just reducing calories can in fact have the reverse effect so make sure you know what you are doing. If you do not take a healthy interest the food you eat it will be very difficult to lose weight let alone maintain any significant weight loss.

If you are serious about
weight loss then most likely you will have to educate yourself on what foods you should be eating. It’s so important to know what we are eating in order to help us lose weight. You may be surprised to discover that some of the foods you now eat that just aren’t very healthy. It takes a lot of self discipline in order to change ones eating habits, or for that matter, any habit. Many of us have become accustomed to eating foods that are unhealthy, but, they are very tempting and very delicious. We have almost become addicted to these foods. Our taste buds crave them even though we know they are not the best foods for us. One of the most difficult things for some people is to reprogram their taste buds. We almost have to train ourselves to like the taste of many new foods and also to wean ourselves of the foods that are bad for us.

Exercise is an important aspect of a weight loss plan. Exercise helps the body burn off those unwanted calories. It also builds lean muscle which not only speeds up your metabolic rate but improves your appearance as lean muscle will replace fat. Some people think that any type of physical activity will help us lose weight, but that isn’t strictly true. It is better to choose the right sort of exercise for your own personal needs especially when trying to lose weight. It does not have to be an extreme exercise program. You don’t even have to join a gym. But you do need to get more physically active. If you have been inactive for years it may be very challenging for you to begin some sort of exercise regime. But if you want to be successful then you will have to make time to exercise, even if to begin with it is just walking around the block a few times each day. Just get busy!

To achieve lasting weight loss you must be patient. You don’t want weight loss to happen too fast or you’ll end up quitting. Change your eating habits and search out those healthy new foods that are good for you. Finally, get active. Remember to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat. Put all three together and you will have a better chance of weight loss over a long term.

Best Exercise to Lose Weight

author Posted by: Marilyn Nelson on date Nov 8th, 2008 | filed Filed under: lose weight

Lose weight by taking in fewer calories than you burn. Once a healthy diet is planned it’s time to get busy with exercise. Just check with you Doctor first. This should include seven days a week, 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise. It can be running on a treadmill, swimming, or even walking to lose weight . Walking is a low impact way to accomplish the exercise goal. With a few tips in mind it can be even better.

Walking for 30 minutes a day seven days a week is a great start. In fact, it’s much better than the five days, or even three days, plan that many people recommend. 30 minutes of exercise 3-5 times a week just isn’t enough. The body needs work every day. That means seven days a week and if walking is the way to make that tolerable every day for the rest of your life, then walk.

Additional activity, outside those 30 minutes a day seven days a week, is easy. Park the car further from the store or office, then walk. Instead of eating a bagel while riding the elevator up to your floor, enjoy a banana while walking up the stairs. When it’s time to rid the yard of leaves use the old fashioned hand rake rather than the leaf blower. Muscle power is exercise. If you have kids get involved in their games of tag, or chase. They’ll love it and so will your body as you lose weight .

After getting accustomed to walking those 30 minutes every day, make some adjustments by adding intervals. Intervals are short bursts of increased activity sprinkled into a normal routine. Start out by running for 30 seconds every 10 minutes of the walk. Gradually increase this to a one minute run every five minutes, which would work like this. You walk for the first four minutes, then run for the fifth, then walk the next four minutes, run the next minute, and so on for the entire 30 minutes. Keep in mind that a run is not a jog; it’s faster, like a sprint. So if you have to work up to run with jog at first it helps you burn more energy and lose weight .

Walking to lose weight is healthy, no doubt. Its also a great way to get around the neighbourhood, meet neighbours, and see things you probably miss while driving around everywhere you go. I think walking is the best exercise to lose weight. If it gets boring you can ask a friend or family member to join you. Make it a family affair, or get the whole neighbourhood involved and they may all lose weight .

Lose Weight with your Teen

author Posted by: Marilyn Nelson on date Nov 5th, 2008 | filed Filed under: lose weight

Lose Weight with your Teen

Are you worried about your teen being overweight? If so, make losing weight a priority. Create a plan, motivate your teen, and start by going to see your doctor for a health check up and some meal plans.

Current studies have shown that teenage obesity has reached epidemic proportions. Most of these studies show that not only do body structure, DNA, diets of fast foods and overeating contribute to the weight problem, but the lack of exercise, by today’s adolescents, is a chief cause. Another fact discovered in these studies is that most young people still in their teens get less than 30 minutes of exercise in a 24 hour period.

If you as a parent aren’t exercising, you are contributing to your child’s bad exercise habits and obesity. A good way to help yourself and your offspring, to get healthy, is to find an exercise program you can both do. As a matter of fact it doesn’t have to be a boring type of exercise, but it can be one loaded with fun.

Again, if both you and your teenager are overweight, it would pay for you to check with your doctor and your child’s pediatrician. This physical checkup will rule out any underlying health problems which could be the cause of the weight gain. It will also determine if you’re both healthy enough to engage in an exercise program for losing weight.

For teens and you to lose weight doesn’t have to be complicated. To help make it bearable for the usual, adolescent attitude, allow them to take along their I-pod or other music player. However, it’s also a great time for you guys to have a good talk.

Don’t use it as a time to preach at them, because if you do, not only will they block you out, you will kill whatever interest they have started to build in exercise.

Another fun exercise that the whole family can participate in is riding bicycles. If you will recall you had a ball riding a bicycle and so did your child. One of the real benefits we get from bike riding is the way it will help us lose weight quickly. Also, the way it will help rebuild the overall shape of your bodies will blow you away. Both you and your teenager will notice you have shapely legs and a firmer butt. In addition it will help keep your heart rates up, which will benefit your entire body with extra oxygen.

Another fun way to lose weight you both can participate in is swimming. Obviously not everyone has a private pool, but many health clubs, gyms, and other public places do.

You need to face the fact, as a parent, it is your overall responsibility to ensure your child’s welfare and over health. By encouraging an exercise program now, while they are still young, will benefit them for the rest of their life.

How to Lose Weight

author Posted by: admin on date Nov 3rd, 2008 | filed Filed under: Uncategorized, lose weight

How to Lose Weight

Why do so many people struggle to lose weight? Despite the numerous diets, books slimming clubs etc etc, obesity is on the rise and we seem to be making little headway in the campaign to reduce it.

Many people have a defeatist attitude about weight loss. Past failures will undoubtedly take their toll, and the attitude that they are happy being overweight can become a cover up for an unhappy person who feels that they will never lose weight. The jolly fat person will convince themselves and the world that they are perfectly happy the way they are

If you are serious about wanting to know how to lose weight it is worth making sure that you are properly organized before you begin. Here is a list of tips and hints that will help to ensure that you get off to a good start and give yourself the best chance to lose weight from the onset.

1. Make a list of the foods you will need for your diet and fill your store cupboard with the required foods so that they are ready at hand.

2. Buy fresh foods on the day you want to eat them for maximum nutritional value.

3. You may want to remove temptation and get rid of the foods that have helped to make you overweight.

4. You will need plenty of high quality protein. Remember protein is essential to reduce fluid
retention and also to speed up your metabolism. It also helps to turn fat into lean muscle. All of these things will help you to understand how to lose weight more effectively and efficiently

5. Many people who are overweight have a sweet tooth so a store of fruit such as bananas, apples and oranges will offer a more sensible alternative. Sugar raises insulin levels too quickly and too high making it more difficult to lose weight, whereas fruit contains fiber which has to be broken down and results in a slower absorption of sugar and a more gradual rise in insulin levels.

6. Coping with a business lunch or dining out when trying to lose weight can be problematic. However it is relatively easy to deal with this. In this day and age you can easily avoid the alcoholic beverage on the understanding that you are driving or going back to work. Many restaurants now offer healthy alternatives. If you are unsure what to choose often the simpler the meal the better. Something that has plenty of protein rather than a pasta meal. It is easier to leave a potato or two rather than have to pick out the meat from a pasta dish. There is normally a fruit salad option or perhaps you could just opt out of the sweet course completely. If all else fails remember that one meal won’t make you fat so just resolve to get back to your weight loss program as soon as possible and you will not compromise your weight loss regime

7. A good rule of thumb is to stick to your diet at least for 95% of the time and don’t be too hard on yourself if you have a bad day or feel the need for a treat. It is better to give in to this than fight it as inevitably the need will grow and could result in your giving up your diet altogether.

8. Remember that as well as sticking to your diet if you want to really understand about how to lose weight effectively and keep it off you need to start thinking like a slim person and imagining yourself as slim. This will help you to eat the same as a slim person. The power of though can help you to lose weight more effectively and to keep it off for good.

9. Whatever you do don’t give up. Even if you have to take a week or a month off you can always start again. If at first you don’t succeed try, try, try again, is an excellent mantra for anyone who wants to continue to learn how to lose weight.

10. Find a friend to accompany you on your journey. Preferably a friend who also needs to lose weight It is also very important to have the support of your family, especially if you think they may be inclined to tempt you with goodies that will not help you to lose weight

It is very important to find the determination and a resolve to do it to the best of your ability to help your weight loss campaign. Many people have lost vast amounts of weight and have kept it off successfully it just takes a bit of will power and an understanding that this is a diet for life and not just until you have reached your target weight.

5 Tips to Lose Weight Quickly

author Posted by: Marilyn Nelson on date Oct 31st, 2008 | filed Filed under: lose weight

So you want lose weight quickly? Being fat is no fun, and it’s bad for your heath too. With this article, we’ll look at five quick and easy weight loss tips.

You likely know why you’re overweight: perhaps you have developed bad habits. Changing those bad habits starts when you become aware of what they are and decide that you need to do something about it.

When you follow these five tips, you’ll understand how your weight crept on, and you can make subtle changes which will not only help you to lose weight, but will also to keep it off.

1. Start a Food Journal — if you eat it then write it down.

When something becomes a habit, you lose awareness of it. It’s completely automatic. You regain awareness when you keep a food journal.
Keep your food journal for a week, without changing your diet in any way. When you do this, you can see the habits which have caused you to put on weight in black and white.
Write down everything you eat and drink, and the hours at which you ate.

2. Move It! Get moving every day.

To stay healthy, you have to move. This doesn’t mean that you need to spend an hour at the gym every day.
Start becoming aware of how much you sit down, and stand up more. At work, stand up when you answer the phone. Take the stairs. Walk to someone’s office rather than sending them an instant message.

3. Shop Wisely - eliminate killer white foods.

Become aware of heavily processed foods — those containing white flour, sugar and fat — and work to eliminate them from your diet. Buy whole-grain bread. Eat fruit rather than a cookie or other processed snack.

4. Get a Diet Buddy — become responsible.

It’s difficult to lose weight alone. Unless you have someone to check in with, you may fall back into your bad food habits.
Get a diet buddy, someone who has just as much weight to lose as you do, and who’s eager to drop pounds.
Weigh yourself once a week. Your diet buddy does the same.
When you know you’ll have to share the weight you’ve gained with your diet buddy next week, you’ll forego that creamy dessert when you eat out.

5. Use Your Head — your imagination is powerful.

Here’s a tip which really works: use your imagination to see yourself slim. Daydream about that tiny bikini you’ll fit into, and how great it will be to buy the clothes you really want. Your imagination is keeping you fat: you imagine how great a certain food will taste. Use your imagination to imagine how great you’ll feel when you look slim and can do all the things you want to do. Weight loss will come.
