The Obesity Epidemic: Lose Weight Tips
The topic of weight has become an important issue in our society. Why has it become so important? Simply because too many of us are overweight! There is no question that we are being faced with a very serious problem, and compounding this problem is the fact that many people do not know how to lose weight. Those with weight problems have to be educated on the various that are available to help them lose weight.
Knowing how to lose weight is important, but how did we arrive at this point where we are facing an obesity epidemic? Where have we gone wrong, as a society in general, to have so many people with serious health problems because of being overweight? Consider some of the following as contributing factors:
* People are leading more sedentary lives
* More women are working full time and have less time to prepare nutritious, healthy meals for the family.
* Food manufacturers are tantalizing our taste buds with high fat snack foods such as crisps and biscuits
* Junk food is being given to young children and they are getting used to the tastes from a very early age.
* We consume far too many sweet foods causing hyper-insulinism
* Inaccurate dietary advice is being given to people who are overweight resulting in confusion.
* Insufficient emphasis is given to the need for a structured exercise program so ensure that the fat is converted to lean muscle.
The number of health problems associated with being overweight are numerous and serious. Many people who have been diagnosed as being obese are also suffering from a variety of different illnesses including heart disease and diabetes. Very often these illnesses provide the catalyst needed for people to address their obesity problem and embark on a program to change their dietary habits and lose weight. The healthy diet required to address the illness is often the same diet required to help them to lose weight.
People need to be informed and in many cases, they have to take the time to inform themselves. They have to be pro-active in dealing with their weight problems, and information is the first step. So many people are ill informed. They have no idea of the harm they are doing to themselves when they eat poorly balanced diets. They think they diet foods are good for them when in fact the reverse is true and these foods are actually contributing to their obesity.
There are no doubt some people are not concerned about how heavy they are. For these people weight is not a problem but rather a way of life. Although a certain sympathy is appropriate for those people who apparently “know no better”, it is incumbent upon all of us to be well informed and to be in a position to make educated choices. There are many weight loss tips available on the Internet, from your doctor and even at the many weight loss centers. Prevention is always better than cure, but if you are already in the unfortunate position of being overweight you have a second chance to reverse the situation, to learn how to lose weight quickly and improve your overall health
