Everyday Tips to Lose Weight

In this ongoing series about ways to lose weight, I will be presenting things you can do every day to help you shed those pounds.

Once upon a time, the need to lose weight was completely unheard of. People ate well, and they worked well at physically demanding jobs. They woke up early and then engaged in a whole day’s work. As a result, they could eat almost anything they wanted in whatever quantities they wanted. And the food was more nutritious before big business got involved in the distribution and sale of food.

But that was ages ago. The world has changed so much since those days. Lifestyles have changed so much and the comforts and facilities have increased so much. As a result of all these comforts and amenities our state of physical well being has really changed. Most of us have sedentary jobs that demand little or no exercise at all. Things have become so darn easy. Modern farming and food distribution methods have stripped our foods of much of their nutrients, and processed foods give us nothing but taste and a lot of sugar and salt. And so, losing weight become a major concern for almost everyone.

When we’re young, this is not such a major concern. The young practically eat nothing and so weight problems do not bother them so much. But as soon as you turn twenty, you start showing signs of weight gain – and that in all the wrong places. It’s not about the hour glass figure or the perfectly sculpted and toned body. It is more about staying fit and remaining healthy to ensure a long, disease-free life. Every body knows that those extra pounds lead to serious physical problems.

People everywhere are switching to a healthier lifestyle. The phrase “lose weight” has become a mantra. This series of articles will be dedicated solely to the cause of losing weight. Some of what you read may surprise you.

There is only one thing that you have to bear in mind. Losing weight does not happen by itself. There are only two ways to accomplish it:

The first is by watching what you eat and the second is by seeing to it that your body gets the exercise that it needs.

Stay tuned for future articles in this series where I will present some of my everyday tips to lose weight. My hope is that you will be finally able to shed those pounds by implementing small but important changes in your life.

Everyday Weight Loss Tips: Water, Water Everywhere

Welcome to another article in my ongoing series about weight loss. In each article I will give one or more tips that you can apply to yourlife on a daily basis to help with your weight loss plans. Today we will look at the importance of water to your weight loss goals.

You need to drink plenty of water. Our body needs a lot of water, so drink it! Water is not just a way to flush out toxins. If you have more water in your body, you will generally feel healthier and fitter.
This itself will discourage any tendency to overeat. The best thing about water is that it has no calories at all.

Start your day with a glass of water. As soon as you wake up, gulp down a glass of cool water. It’s a wonderful way to start your day, and you will only need a smaller quantity of your breakfast drink
after that. A glass of water lets out all your digestive juices and lubricates the insides of your body. You may have your morning cup of tea but have it after a glass of water. It is good for you.

Drink a glass of water before you start a meal. Water naturally needs some space so that you will feel fuller without actually having to stuff yourself. One of the goals of weight loss is to eat less – you will eat less if you feel fuller.

Have another glass of water while you are having a meal. Again this is another way of making yourself full so that you can actually rise from the table eating less but feeling full. Instead of drinking it one
gulp, take sips after each morsel. It will help the food to settle faster so that you get that feeling that you are full faster. And finally, have a glass of water after the meal. This again will
contribute to feelings of fullness.

Water is such a remarkable thing, but seldom do we give it the credit that it deserves. Did you know that over 66% of your body weight is nothing but water? It’s amazing! Water also plays a vital role in
weight loss and weight control.

Tips to Lose Weight

No matter what you watch on TV, surf on the internet or read a magazine, there are ads every where on how to lose weight. Most people want to lose weight some time during their life. I have read we should stay at the same weight we were when we were a senior in High School. But that would depend on whether we were over weight at that time. Many school age children are over weight these days. So according to a standard weight chart is what we should go by these days. If you are slightly overweight your health is probably not being challenged. If you are seriously overweight, your health is being challenged and of course if obese your life is in danger. Always consult with your health care provider so they can monitor you during your program.

What is really interesting to note and be concerned about is that many diseases are brought on because of being overweight. You can check information out at the Center for Disease Control for information about related diseases and obesity. It also stands to reason that excess weight would be harmful to all of ones organs. Diabetes has increased in numbers considerably since this trend of over weight has become a problem.

Perhaps for the average over weight person, the best way to lose weight is to change your diet. Most of us know what is high in calories. If we learn to read labels we can check how much sugar, corn syrup and carbohydrates are in the things we eat regularly. If we cut these back we will be cutting out a lot of calories from our diet. There is so much junk in our foods because of processing. Try and go with fresh produce like vegetables and fruit.

Add in the mix of exercising to our program to lose weight, we will be firming up the muscles which will make us more slender. I have heard that the best exercise you can do is push yourself away from the table. My favorite type of exercise is stretching. I found the program for it on TV and have really found it a great help in firming up and getting better balance plus gaining ½ inches in height.

One thing that many people over look is walking. I enjoy that with several other women from our church. We walk for our health and enjoy bird watching along the river as we walk and talk. Make fun and enjoyment out of everything you do. You will do it longer that way. Support is helpful in any of the things we undertake. I know it is helpful for me and I think it is helpful for everyone. Plus its always great to get out doors and do something positive to lose weight and enjoy some time with your friends.

Lose Weight

If you are serious about wanting lose weight it is worth making sure that you are properly organized before you begin. Here is a list of tips and hints that will help to ensure that you get off to a good start to ensure that you give yourself the best chance to lose weight from the onset.

1. Make a list of the foods you will need for your diet and ensure that you have a good store cupboard with the required foods ready at hand.

2. Buy fresh foods on the day you want to eat them to ensure maximum nutritional value.

3. To help with your weight loss, you may want to remove temptation and empty your cupboards of the foods that have helped to make you overweight.

4. Make sure you have a good store of high quality protein. Remember protein is essential to reduce fluid retention and to speed up your metabolism. It also helps to turn fat into lean muscle. All of these things will help you to lose weight more effectively

5. If you know you are prone to a sweet tooth then a store of fruit such as bananas, apples and oranges will offer a more acceptable alternative. Sugar raises insulin levels too quickly and too high making it more difficult for weight loss, whereas fruit contains fiber which has to be broken down and results in a slower absorption of sugar and a more gradual rise in insulin levels. This will have a lesser effect on your ability to lose weight and sustained weight loss.

6. How can you cope with a business lunch or dining out when trying to lose weight? It is relatively easy in this day and age to avoid the alcoholic beverage on the understanding that you are driving. Many restaurants now offer healthy alternatives. If you are unsure what to choose often the simpler the meal the better. Something that has plenty of protein rather than a pasta meal. It is easier to leave a potato or two rather than have to pick out the meat from a pasta dish. You can always go for the fruit salad option or just opt out of the sweet course completely. If all else fails remember that one meal wont make you fat so just resolve to get back to your weight loss program and you will not compromise your ability to continue to lose weight

7. A good rule of thumb is to stick to your diet at least for 95% of the time and don’t knock yourself up if you have a bad day or feel a desperate need for a treat. It is better to honor this than fight it as inevitably the need will grow and could result in your giving up your diet even temporarily hindering the speed at which you will lose weight.

8. Remember that as well as sticking to your diet if you want to lose weight and keep it off you need to start thinking like a slim person and imagining yourself as slim. The power of though can help you to lose weight more effectively and to keep it off for good.

9. Whatever you do don’t give up. Even if you have to take a week or a month off you can always start again. If at first you don’t succeed try, try, try again, is an excellent mantra for anyone who wants to lose weight.

10. Finally it is always beneficial to have a friend to accompany you on your journey. It is also very important to have the support of your family, especially if you think they may be inclined to tempt you with goodies that will not help you to lose weight

This is certainly not a definitive list but if you are genuinely keen for wanting to lose weight, then this list will give you an excellent start.
