Desperate to Lose Weight Quickly? Don’t Be!

Sometimes our perceptions of ourselves are distorted. When it comes to weight loss, we can be too hard on ourselves. Maybe we don’t need to lose as much weight as we think we do. It is amazing how many people get into a state of mind where they become desperate to lose weight quickly.

I’m sure you know people that have been on a weight loss program when they were really not overweight. However they perceived themselves as being overweight, some even to the point of believing that they were desperate to lose weight quickly. Before you embark on a weight loss diet it is advisable to ascertain if you are truly overweight and if so, how much weight you have to lose. In order to do this you need to consult a weight chart that tells you your ideal weight range for your height. For example a man who is 5′ 6″ should weight between 124 to 156 pounds whereas a woman who is 5′ 6″ should weigh between 114 and 146 pounds. The range is according to the size of the frame of the individual. This chart is an excellent guide for those who want to lose weight as it will help you to work out your target weight and the amount of weight you need to lose to reach that target.

There are so many diets and weight loss programs available that it can be very confusing. Diets that promote so many different ways to lose weight, from starvation diets to diets catering to those who are desperate to lose weight quickly, to diets that allow you to eat only certain foods. Did you know that dieters who skip breakfast could end up gaining weight instead of being able to lose weight? People who don’t eat breakfast usually have a metabolic rate that is 4 – 5% lower than normal which means their bodies don’t burn fat as efficiently.

Why to people fall for unrealistic claims made by some advertisers. Because smart marketers know anyone desperate to lose weight quickly will probably spend money on anything they think will help them. When trying to lose weight it is advisable not to take too much notice of the claims you’ll find on food packaging. All to often they are just marketing ploys to get you to buy their products. “Which” magazine reported that there was no evidence to support that foods were truly “low fat” or “high fibre”. these claims have no legal definition and manufacturers can us them as they like. So don’t rely on these claims.

A person’s state of mind is an important tool in the fight to overcome weight problems. It is paramount that you do not become desperate to lose weight quickly. If you want to lose weight effectively the best advice would be to purchase natural wholesome food rather than food that has been processed for weight loss. The food industry and the weight loss industry are in it for the money not to help you to lose weight. That may be a cynical approach but it is probably also a very wise approach. A well balanced diet full of fresh fruit and vegetables and a serving of a protein food at each meal will inevitably be more beneficial and you will be more likely to successfully lose weight

Easy Ways to Lose Weight: Write It All Down

Anyone who has ever wanted to lose weight, or needed to, for that matter, are always on the lookout for easy ways to lose weight. It is human nature to take the easy way regardless what we are doing. The only problem is that sometimes the easy way is not always the best way. When it come to weight loss, not many people will tell you that it is easy. We all know how difficult it can be. But once we make up our mind and accept the fact that some sacrifices have to be made, then the process does begin to seem somewhat more easy. It’s all a matter of acceptance.

People on any weight loss program become avid readers about various plans, diets and success stories. Deep down maybe we are looking for some easy ways to lose weight. I am about to share an article I found while cruising the Internet. It is written by USA Today. I was almost physically ill when I read it. It made me realize what an idiot I have been for almost 50 years of trying to lose weight. I have spent a small fortune on gyms, weight watcher meetings ,multiple types of weight loss diet plan, keeping various sizes of clothing available at all times, and all this time, all I had to do was write down what I was eating!

Now, I know it seems a bit absurd, but I would even question if there are actually any easy ways to lose weight. maybe there is. According to this USA Today article, dieters who write down everything they eat each day lose twice as much weight as those who don’t and this is based on one of the largest weight-loss studies ever conducted. This confirms the importance of keeping a food diary — advice that nutritionists and weight loss programs have pushed for years. I do seem to remember being told to do this, but it flew right over my head.

There are constantly studies being carried out with weight loss. Of course, researchers would be more than pleased if easy ways to lose weight were discovered. Scientists at four clinical research centers recruited 1,685 overweight or obese adults who weighed an average 212 pounds. Forty-four percent were African Americans. The participants were offered 20 weekly group sessions led by nutritionists and behavior counselors and encouraged to try to lose at least 9 pounds in six months. They were told to consume about 500 fewer calories a day, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, do about 180 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week, and keep daily food and exercise records. This was the only weight loss regime they had to perform.

The results of some studies are not what was expected. The findings of this particular study may amaze you. After 6 months, they found out that the ones who wrote down what they ate every day lost twice as much weight as the ones who didn’t. I am beside myself with anger. You mean to tell me I could be a size 8 instead of a size 16 if I had only written down what I was eating all these years. I figure the physical activity alone of writing all that down ought to amount to a few pounds of weight loss. Well, there you have it. The secret to weight loss has been found. Get those pencils out girls and start writing it all down and double your weight loss. Maybe there is hope after all that some easy ways to lose weight may be developed.

How to Lose Weight Quickly

Weight loss is now a major problem in our society. From young children to teens to your adults, more and more people are becoming over weight. Why is this happening and what can be done about it? And are some sectors of society promoting it? So many people are searching for ways on how to lose weight quickly. With obesity becoming a world wide epidemic millions of people are searching for a foolproof way of how to lose weight and maintain that weight loss.

Is it any wonder that weight loss has become big business? There are millions of dollars spent on weight loss programs each year. And people want to know how to lose weight quickly. It can be very difficult for the average person to know which one of the numerous diets available should they choose to help them to lose weight? For some people the need to lose weight is a serious life saving business whereas for others it may just be to lose weight to look a little better in that wedding outfit or to get into a new dress for a special occasion. But whatever the reason the desire to lose weight can become an obsession and people will go to unbelievable ends to make this happen.

There are so many different programs available today for those looking to lose weight. Many of these programs promote programs on how to lose weight quickly. Most people are content to lose weight by following a simple calorie controlled diet or by attending a club like Weight Watchers, but others have to resort to more drastic measures, like having their stomach’s stapled or undergoing an operation such as liposuction to remove several pounds of fat from their bodies. These people often have a more deep rooted problem needing a more radical approach to help them to lose weight.

I’m sure you’ve noticed how advertising for years has promoted the thin look. Especially for young girls. They grow up thinking that they have to be thin. Today image is becoming more and more important, particularly amongst the younger generation who want to look like the super models and to be able to wear the latest fashions. Their desire to find out how to lose weight quickly can often become an obsession and this can have some devastating effects if not dealt with appropriately. Many young people who start off wanting to be “super model slim” can very easily become anorexic if it is in their nature to become overly obsessive about their eating habits.

A major part of the the weight problem today is the lack of education provided on the topic. As always there is an expectation that schools should play their part and ensure that young people are educated about the need for healthy eating. Although this is a good way of targeting these young people, if the program is to be successful it will be necessary to somehow educate the parents of these children as healthy eating must begin in the home!! Too many parents are inclined to indulge their children by giving in to their fads and fancies and are too eager to give them sugary treats and buy ready made meals from the fast food establishments. There is nothing to beat some good home cooking with natural ingredients. Parents need to be aware that eating a healthy home prepared meal is an important part of everyday family life. Parents should not let things get to the point where their children begin to look for information on how to lose weight quickly.

Weight Loss Stories – Fact or Fiction

People who have been successful at losing weight, and keeping it off, will have a story to tell. And most will be more than pleased to tell you how they did it. However, sometimes people will stretch the truth somewhat, but you have to determine what is fact or fiction. We all feel great when we achieve significant weight loss and we are all happy to tell others about the struggles we had to endure to reach our goals.

We usually don’t realize how important our stories can be for others. We are just pleased that someone will listen to how we did it. However, our successful weight loss stories have an importance of their own in that they can inspire other people to lose weight. So in fact an honest weight loss story can save someone’s life and that’s not an exaggeration; it is a statement of fact. Many of these people have made huge sacrifices and life changes to achieve their goal and seeing their success in real terms is very helpful to others who are in a similar situation.

When regular people are successful at the weight loss game, others notice. And believe it or not, they are curious as to how we reached our goals. Weight loss success stories can easily inspire, but it is vital to keep in mind that you won’t achieve your target weight tomorrow, next week or next month. But every day that you stick to your plan and make changes to your eating habits, you are one day closer to your target and one day closer to a healthier you.

We all know someone who has lost a large amount of weight. We also know that some of these people have put the weight back on, not being able to maintain the weight loss they achieved. There are many weight loss success stories available if you join a program like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. These companies love to tell the world about their successful clients, no doubt to make themselves look great but also to inspire everyday people to reach their goals. Absolutely anyone can achieve their weight loss goals, regardless of how much you weigh now. People have regained control of their life from all sorts of difficult circumstances, including weighing several hundred pounds! So there is no reason why you can’t follow on their footsteps. You have to believe in yourself and really want to lose weight. Remember the mind plays a very important role in any weight loss program.

So when you are successful at losing some weight and maintaining that weight loss, be prepared to tell others about your journey. They are more than curious how you did it, so why not keep a journal as you travel that weight loss road. The most important thing to take on board is that you’ll have to take action if you are to achieve your target weight. It is easy to be inspired by others weight loss success stories, but it isn’t always as easy to follow their example. Determination and self control will help you to achieve your dream of being slim. In the end its up to you.

Lose Weight with the GI Diet

Weight loss today has become a science. To be successful it seems that you have to know what the latest research studies have uncovered and be able to apply this information to your daily routine. Gone are the days of using our common sense to lose weight. Common sense referring to eating the right foods, eating the proper amount of the foods we need and following a moderate exercise plan. Regardless, if you need to lose weight then you must do what works for you. If it means keeping abreast of the latest research, or just doing all the common sense things, if it works for you then that is what you need to do.

There are so many theories as to the best way to lose weight. One of the most popular ways to lose weight is to choose foods according to their Glycemic Load (GL). All food has a glycemic index (GI) which is a qualitative measure that tells you whether the carbohydrate it contains is fast or slow releasing. The Glycemic Load tells you more about the effect that food will have on your weight, ie whether or not it will cause you to put on weight.
If we are to believe that the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to by stabilizing your blood sugar and insulin response to food, then we need to pay attention to the ways to achieve this. Keeping the blood sugar balanced depends not only on what we eat but also when we eat it. We need to reduce the amount of carbohydrate in our diets. We also need choose foods/carbohydrates with a low glycemic-load (GL), combine carbohydrates with protein and cut back on stimulants and stress.

When following any weight loss plan, you must be confident that it is the right plan for you as well as a healthy plan. To lose weight on this diet it is important to make sure that you eat no more than 40 GL a day and at main meals you should eat low GL carbohydrates with protein rich foods. How a food is processed, prepared or cooked is a key element in the GL of a food and therefore the effect it will have on your blood sugar. If you eat spaghetti if example your blood sugar levels and your insulin levels will rise quite gently until the body produces insulin and then they drop. However if you eat white bread they will rise twice as high and then drops down much lower. It is the peaks that damage your arteries making them less responsive to insulin and the troughs that leave you tired and sleepy and craving carbohydrates and or stimulants. It is strange that two foods made of roughly the same flour can have such different effects on the body. This is probably due to the fact that bread is cooked for longer than spaghetti. Needless to say eating white bread will do nothing to help you to lose weight.

It may sound a bit complicated but as you become more familiar with this information the clearer it becomes and easier to apply as you attempt to lose weight. The Glycemic Index levels to which different foods raise your blood sugar compared with the effect of pure glucose. The more complex the carbohydrate, the lower the GI, as it will take longer for the sugar to be broken down and released into the blood stream . For example apples and oats are slow releasing and raisins and puffed rice cereal are fast releasing. So the foods you choose to help you to lose weight should be from the Low Glycemic Index foods

As with most things in life, there are some exceptions and so there is with using the Glycmic Index. There is one small problem with using just the GI score as you will find that certain foods such as carrots and chocolate have similar scores and clearly it would be foolish to choose the chocolate over the carrots if you want to avoid the blood sugar highs and lows and ultimately lose weight. The Glycemic Load (GL) is a far better way of predicting the right foods to eat as it is an indicator of what a given serving of food will do to your blood sugar. Remember that balancing your blood sugar and insulin is the only sure way to lose weight and keep it off.
